About us

Blockchain investigators, on the side of victims since 2013.

Chain Investigation is a US-based blockchain investigations firm. We help people and businesses who have lost crypto to theft, fraud and scams find out where it went and what can be done.

We started in 2013, when most people had never heard of a blockchain. Since then we have read the chain for one reason: to give victims a clear, honest picture of their case, backed by evidence they can take to a lawyer, the police or an exchange.

  • We trace stolen or scammed cryptocurrency on the blockchain, find out where it went, and turn that into evidence that lawyers, police and exchanges can act on. We have been doing this since 2013.

  • No, and nobody honest can. Recovery depends on where the funds ended up and whether an exchange or authority can act. What we promise is a clear trace, solid evidence, and an honest view of your chances before you pay.

  • Not necessarily. Blockchain records are permanent, so old transactions can still be traced. Acting sooner gives exchanges more chance to freeze funds, but older cases are worth a review too.

  • Individuals and businesses across the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union and NATO member countries, along with their lawyers and the investigating officers on their case.

  • Nothing. Your first case review is free. We look at what happened and tell you honestly whether the funds can be traced.

  • If you want us to go ahead, we send you a written quote for the agreed work before anything starts. No surprise charges, and nothing is billed without your approval.

  • Never. Fees to "release" or "unlock" recovered funds are a classic recovery scam. If anyone asks you for one in our name, it is not us.

  • We tell you in the free review if tracing is unlikely to help, so you can decide before paying anything. We would rather turn a case down than take money for work that cannot succeed.

  • We review your details, then explain what we can do and send a quote. Once you agree, we trace the funds, write up the evidence report, and help you take it to exchanges, your lawyer or the police.

  • It depends on the case. A direct transfer to an exchange can be quick; funds moved through many wallets, swaps and chains take longer. We give you an expected timeline in your case review.

  • Yes. You get one case manager who keeps you informed at each stage, from the first review to the outcome, and explains findings in plain language.

  • We send the exchange's compliance team the evidence and ask them to freeze the account. The final decision is theirs, often with law enforcement involved, but strong evidence gives your case the best chance.

  • Transaction IDs, the wallet addresses involved, dates and amounts, screenshots of messages and the platform, your exchange details, and a police report number if you have one. Send what you can.

  • No, you can start without one. A report helps when asking exchanges to act, so we recommend filing one, and we can help you prepare it with our findings.

  • Often, yes. We can usually find the transactions from your wallet address or your exchange's withdrawal history. Tell us what you do have and we will work from there.

  • Never. Tracing only needs public blockchain data. We will never ask for your seed phrase, private keys, passwords or remote access to your devices.

  • Yes. Your case details are only shared with the people you approve, such as your lawyer, the police or an exchange's compliance team.

  • Start contact through this website. If someone messages you first on social media, email or a messaging app claiming to be Chain Investigation, treat it as a scam and check with us here.
